Why Consumocracy?

I believe that everything we do is connected. Its simply Newton’s 3rd Law: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
So for every cup of coffee I make or drink of water I take there is an equal and opposite reaction. That got me thinking. What was the reaction?
Couple this with the economic idea of externalities and the reaction gets bigger. In economics an externality is a cost or benefit, not transmitted through prices, incurred by a party who did not agree to the action causing the cost or benefit. A benefit in this case is called a positive externality, while a cost is called a negative externality.
This means that even my seemingly mundane actions in life cause a pretty big reaction.
How connected are we all?
